No, It's Not Rigged, Get Over It

By other1 on 05/10 at 04:45 PM More

If you frequent a lot of poker forums and websites you will no doubt see the ‘is online poker rigged?’ debate crop up quite regularly. It’s usually a pretty fruitless debate because, really, nobody knows anything. You can argue one way or the other, but most of the people arguing really have nothing but anectodal information and “proof”. There are also people who claim that because random number generation isn’t really random, you can predict the cards that are going to be being dealt. Some scammers even sell software that claims to do this.

I Got The Horse Right Here

By other1 on 05/07 at 04:42 AM More

About 5 weeks ago, before the field was even set, I decided to bet on a few horses to win the Kentucky Derby. I used tradesports, my favorite venue for placing wierd bets like my earlier action on the Oscars. I bet on Bob And John who came in near last.. Bluegrass Cat, who finished a respectable second.. And.. You know it’s coming.. Barbaro! I bought at 7.5 a share and the win paid 100 for a little over 13/1. Almost twice as good as the little over 7/1 you got if you placed a bet at the track. I always knew Horseracing was my game.

You're writing an article now!?!?

Ostensibly I went to Foxwoods to see Bengiswex in the 10K No-Limit WPT tourney; unfortunately I can’t really comment on it, since he was out minutes before I arrived.  Instead I’ll give you my impressions of the new WPT World Poker Room.

First off, the space was pretty large with what seemed to be two rooms; the large one for hold’em and the smaller room for stud, omaha, etc.  With 114 tables, I really liked the fact that were signs hanging above the tables identifying the table number. I don’t recall having any issue with the tables or chips they were using and I was thrilled to see that the waittresses came around a lot more frequently then my last trip to CT.  The machines where you could sign up for games weren’t quite up and running yet, but I also had very little trouble getting on to a table during the weekend.  There was no high limit area so I sat a couple tables away from Paul Darden and Hoyt Corkins (who was no doubt on tilt from the tournament that was still going on).

'The New Club', RIP

By other1 on 05/04 at 05:47 PM More

My friend’s new club, which I blogged about a few weeks ago, was closed down last night. I guess there were no real crimes going on in New York City last night (do murderers and rapists take the summer off?) so they had time to bust a harmless card room. C’est la vie. It really sucks that places keep getting shut down. This one really hurts since I literally helped the guy build the place, so I take the bust kind of personally. I guess it could have been worse, I continued my perfect streak of not being at the club when it was busted. I’ve played regularly at most of the card rooms that have been shut down in the city but miraculously have never actually been at one when it was raided.

I'm A Donkey

By other1 on 04/26 at 11:46 PM More

I can’t believe the way I just self destructed in the $3R on Stars. I had a pretty decent stack at the third break. Down from my top (when I had about 60k) but I still had about 45k at this point. About the second hand after the break I have AJo under the gun and I limp. First mistake.

Guy in middle position pushes all in for about 4500 more. Guy in late position smoothcalls. I smoothcall. Second mistake.

Flop comes 3 rags with 2 hearts (I have no heart). I check. Third mistake.

Turn is a non-heart J. I bet 6k. Other guy pushes all in for about 25k more. I think for a while. I view this guy as being kind of fishy and don’t really believe he was slow playing a big pair here. I figured he had the same hand as me, or another Ax that hit (or even that didnt) or that he had a big flush draw and was hoping he would push me out. Well, with all this in mind I convinced myself I was good and I called off most of my stack. Final mistake.

He had QQ. All my reasoning was wrong. I guess the lesson is, if you have to convince yourself to call, don’t.

This left me with about 8k. I had to fold my blinds to raises and was down to just over 5k when I got dealt KK on the button. It was folded to me and I pushed all in. The SB folded and the BB thought for a while. He probably figured I was steaming, which was exactly what I wanted him to think so he would call, and call he did. With 54o!

Best Title Ever

I think it’s safe to say poker has now jumped the shark. It’s become a theme in porn. This is incredibly funny, but also incredibly not work safe. Be warned.

I Cashed In An Omaha Tournament?

By other1 on 04/24 at 03:16 AM More

Yup, I sure did. Nobody is more surprised than me. I like to dabble in Omaha for fun, but I don’t consider myself very good. I think it might be time to start actually concentrating on becoming a decent player, because with almost no knowledge and dumb luck I’m still doing pretty well. With about 40 people left out of about 160 I was 12th in chips. If I was a better Omaha player I should have been able to cruise towards the money trying to slowly chip up and be in good shape when we got ther. Instead I gave away almost all of my stack and scraped and clawed back to find myself 19th with 19 people left when 18 spots paid. A key double up and then the self destruction of another player at a different table and I managed to avoid bubbling out. While I didn’t take down the whole thing (was 16th) or exactly make big money (~$50), I’m still pretty proud. It’s my first cash in a multi table Omaha tourny.

Bodog Card & Table Mod

By other1 on 04/19 at 11:20 PM More

While there are a ton of card and table mods for Party and Stars and other popular sites there don’t seem to be any for bodog. I’ve been playing a bunch on bodog lately and got kind of sick of the look, so I decided to make my own mod. Here is what it looks like..

As you can see, I made the cards a lot more colorful. I’m a huge fan of the four colored deck option. I have misread suits before and gotten burned. Well, there is no chance of that with this deck. I also gave the table a cleaner look in my opinion. You can install one without the other. If you are interested in installing it, read on…
